Are you seeking a dedicated and compassionate counselor to help you or your loved ones navigate life's challenges? Sherri Hanks, a Resident in Counseling with a provisional Virginia license, is currently accepting new clients at the Galax Office and via telehealth.

Sherri specializes in working with adolescents, children, and adults dealing with parenthood issues, anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, and PTSD. Inspired by her desire to assist those impacted by divorce, broken relationships, and blended family dynamics, Sherri is passionate about helping individuals restructure their family systems and cope with related pressures and frustrations.

Through her work with youth, Sherri has embraced Existential principles, emphasizing the importance of connections, self-confidence, and overcoming barriers to purposeful living. She has witnessed the increase in anxiety among youth and families post-COVID-19 and recognizes the benefits of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices in fostering a sense of safety and control.

Sherri’s experience with youth has also highlighted the far-reaching effects of substance use disorder and addiction. She believes in the power of Motivational Interviewing to partner with individuals and help them discover their own strength for change.

Sherri earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Concord University and her Master of Science degree in Counseling and Human Development from Radford University. With seven years of experience as an elementary school teacher and sixteen years as a school counselor in Virginia and North Carolina, Sherri has extensive experience working with Pre-K-8 students. Since fall 2023, she has also worked part-time as a Recovery Coach with youth in crisis at PATH CSU through Mount Rogers Community Services Board.

Sherri provides therapy in-person at the Galax office and via telehealth for clients with Medicaid-based plans from Aetna Betterhealth, Anthem Healthkeepers, Optima, Optum, and Sentara/Virginia Premier, as well as commercial plans with Anthem and Cigna.

Sherri is under the clinical supervision of Melissa Londry, LPC, who can be contacted at melissa@bodyandmindfullyhealthy.com or 276-293-1235. Reach out today to start your journey towards healing and well-being with Sherri Hanks.
